GHWY Digital Hub connects learners with higher education opportunities across West Yorkshire
Go Higher West Yorkshire’s (GHWY) Digital Hub is making it easier for learners, teachers and advisers to explore higher education opportunities and support across the region. It is also giving GHWY member institutions another way to promote their higher education offer alongside the wider partnership.
Developed by GHWY, a partnership of 13 higher education providers, the Hub provides a simple digital starting point for people exploring their next steps. Designed to work effectively across mobile phones, tablets and computers, it offers dedicated journeys for learners, teachers and advisers, and parents and carers, helping users quickly find information relevant to them.
For learners, this means a clearer route through the sometimes complex range of choices available after school or college. The Hub brings together information about higher education pathways through university and college, alongside guidance on areas including funding, student life and support available from our member institutions for learners who may face additional barriers to accessing higher education, including disabled and care-experienced learners.
It also provides a route into the range of higher education available locally. Learners can explore courses and providers from across the GHWY partnership in one place, helping them discover institutions and opportunities they may not otherwise have come across. Rather than needing to know in advance which providers to search for, they can see a broader picture of the higher education available across West Yorkshire.
Supporting teachers and advisers
The Hub is also designed as a practical resource for professionals supporting young people to make decisions about their futures. It can support the whole learner journey, from accessing guidance and resources, through conversations about different higher education routes, to exploring courses and providers when a learner is ready to consider their options.
Teachers and advisers can access GHWY resources, professional development opportunities, and specialist information to help them support a wide range of learners, including groups that are underrepresented in higher education. This includes resources and support relating to areas such as disability, care experience, attainment raising, employability and digital skills, alongside free CPD opportunities.
Crucially, the Hub brings together information from across the whole GHWY partnership, rather than focusing on a single institution or one type of higher education provision. This gives schools, colleges and other organisations a consistent place to explore and signpost the breadth of local opportunities available, while connecting practitioners with the resources and expertise of GHWY and its member institutions.
A shared resource for the West Yorkshire partnership
The Digital Hub also demonstrates the value of higher education providers working collectively.
GHWY’s 13 members work together to reduce inequalities in access to and success in higher education. A shared digital platform supports that approach by creating a single point of entry to information from across the partnership, while still enabling learners to progress to individual institutions and opportunities when they are ready to explore them in greater detail.
That collaborative approach has wider relevance across West Yorkshire.
The West Yorkshire Combined Authority’s Region of Learning and Creativity Strategy places a strong emphasis on helping young people develop the confidence, skills and experience needed to move into further learning, training and good work. It also identifies high-quality careers education, clearer connections between learning and the local economy, and support for disadvantaged young people as important regional priorities.
The Digital Hub complements this wider landscape by helping learners understand where higher education can fit within their future plans and by giving the teachers and advisers supporting them easier access to trusted information.
There are opportunities for this digital infrastructure to increasingly connect users with complementary regional services. The Combined Authority already provides careers and next-steps support for young people and resources for educators through its careers offer, while its Digital Inclusion programme is working with organisations across West Yorkshire to improve access, confidence and participation in digital services.
Together, these resources can help create a more connected journey for young people – from understanding their skills and career ambitions, to exploring education and training pathways and identifying the opportunities available locally.
Making opportunities easier to find
At the heart of the Digital Hub is a simple aim: making it easier for people across West Yorkshire to find the information they need to make informed decisions about higher education.
For learners, that means clearer information about their options. For teachers and advisers, it means trusted resources to support conversations about progression. And for the wider partnership, it providesanother way to connect people with the breadth of education, skills and career opportunities available across West Yorkshire.
