Applying to higher education directly through Clearing

Clearing isn’t just for students who missed their grades — it’s also a great route for anyone applying later than usual. If you’re a first-time applicant, a mature student, or just decided recently that higher education is right for you, Clearing gives you the chance to apply for a course starting this September.

Applying directly might feel a bit different from those who already went through the UCAS cycle, but that doesn’t mean your journey is any less valid. What matters is that you find the right course at a university or college that fits you – and Clearing helps make that happen.

“Clearing might not be part of your original plan, but it can still lead you exactly where you’re meant to be and become your ‘new Plan A’. It’s just another way forward, and you’re not alone in taking it.”

Applying After the Deadline?

Missed the 30 June UCAS deadline? Don’t worry — Clearing is your next step.

From 5 July to 21 October 2025, you can apply directly through UCAS Clearing and find a course that’s right for you.

How to Apply Through Clearing (4 Simple Steps)

  1. Search for Clearing courses
Use the UCAS website to search, save and compare courses or browse universities or colleges directly.

  2. Contact the university or college
Call the Clearing hotline of the university or college you’re interested in. Have your UCAS ID (if you have it), exam results, and questions ready.

  3. Add your new choice in UCAS Hub
Once you get a verbal offer, add it in UCAS Hub.

  4. Get ready to start
Once your place is confirmed, update your UCAS Hub details and organise your student finance, accommodation, and support.
