Didn’t get the grades you needed? Don’t panic – Clearing can help.

We get it – missing out on your firm or insurance choice can feel overwhelming. But you’re not alone, and it’s definitely not the end of the road.

Every year, thousands of students find the right course for them through Clearing. It’s a second chance to take control of your future and apply for a course that’s still right for you.

You might need to change your plans or consider different universities – but what matters is that you’re still on track to start higher education and work towards your goals.

Need help with next steps? Tools UCAS can support you in searching for available courses, comparing your options, and even booking open days to explore what’s right for you. You can also explore our local higher education provider websites directly from our list below.

“When I realised I hadn’t met the grades for my first choice, I honestly felt like everything had fallen apart. I’d built up so much pressure around that moment. But once I took a deep breath and spoke to someone on the Clearing line, things turned around so quickly. They were calm, reassuring, and helped me explore all my options. It wasn’t what I’d planned—but in the end, it felt right. I ended up somewhere that suits me so much better, and I’m genuinely excited about what’s next.”

How UCAS Clearing Works

How UCAS Clearing Works
If you didn’t meet the conditions of your firm or insurance offer, don’t worry – you still have options.

Clearing is your chance to find a place on a course starting this year.

Once your results are confirmed and your UCAS Hub shows that you haven’t been accepted by your original choices, you can apply for a new course through Clearing.

From Results Day, you’ll be able to log in to your UCAS Hub, see your Clearing status, and start searching for courses that suit you.

Important Dates for Clearing 2025

  • 5 July – Clearing opens

  • 14 August – A-Level Results Day

  • 20 October – Clearing closes

You can’t apply through Clearing until you’ve received your results, but it is a good idea to do your research before hand.
