Care Leavers: What support we offer, University Centre at Wakefield College

At Wakefield College and the University Centre Wakefield we recognise that every student is different, and their needs are personal and unique. We pride ourselves on being an inclusive college and endeavour to tailor our support to the specific needs of the individual wherever possible. This includes a range of services and specific support for those who are care experienced.

We have a dedicated Higher Education (HE) team who can assist with support and, if necessary, signpost you to the correct agency. We know our students; small groups mean that your tutor will get to know the real you. We treat you like an individual and tailor our support to meet your needs.

We provide modern teaching and learning facilities for our undergraduate students. We are constantly investing in the best facilities including dedicated learning areas just for you so that you’ve got access to everything you need.

We have a strong commitment to widening access to HE and we have a range of bursaries and scholarships to support eligible students starting a higher education course at the University Centre.

The National Student Survey results for 2023 found that over 92% of our students feel positive about the teaching and support they receive at the University Centre, which is 8% higher than the sector average. The University Centre also placed significantly higher than the national average in terms of learning opportunities, assessment, academic support, student voice and course organisation.
