Class of 2025 Summer School – An Immanuel perspective

Go class of 2025!

2025 may seem a long time away… This is the year that our current year 10 students can expect to graduate from university.

To give students a taste now of being a university student, a group of Immanuel students took part in a 2 day residential, with schools from across Bradford, Leeds and Wakefield. Our students stayed overnight at the student halls of residence at Kirkstall and visited Leeds Beckett University, Leeds City College, Bradford University, Leeds Trinity University and Bradford College over the two days – exhausting! There was a UCAS fair, a design a new university competition and subject taster sessions. Immanuel students took part with great enthusiasm in all the activities, ending with a graduation ceremony on the last afternoon.

Miss Young who accompanied the residential (and didn’t get much sleep!) said “I really enjoyed the budget busters activity. It was really useful. The students learnt about the costs of university in quite a detailed way. Also the different routes post 18 were made really clear, for instance higher level apprenticeships versus university. We realised that no one route is better than any another.

I learnt about different careers too, such as being a quantity surveyor and the management side of the building industry, things I didn’t know about before.”

Feedback from Immanuel students focussed on what they had learnt and what their next steps need to be. For example, “The best thing was the engineering taster and the activities I did. It gave me experience and knowledge of the subject. I learnt about what qualifications I need for architecture. Next I need to do more research in my own time on topics I’m interested in.”

As always, thanks go to the organisers of the residential and to Go Higher for another great opportunity.
