Creative students creating community at Calderdale College University Centre

We have a thriving community of Creative Students on several pathways across the University Centre. Highlighted below are just a few of their amazing projects.
Bird box project
Art & Design Foundation Degree student Natasha Brown is using creativity to raise awareness about Britain’s declining bird populations through a community project. She has crafted over 200 birdhouses from recycled wood, engaging students and staff in workshops to paint them, fostering awareness and unity.
The birdhouses will be displayed at the end of year show in Dean Clough Art Gallery, Halifax. They will then become part of a large-scale community sculpture before being donated to local schools and the community to provide shelter for birds. Natasha aims to complete the project for World Wildlife Day and World Recycling Day in March while also raising funds for the RSPB, proving that art can inspire change.

Live Lounge: Streaming Live from Calderdale Music
Calderdale College’s very own Live Lounge is set to break new ground this spring. This time, it is teaming up with Calderdale Music, taking the show offsite for the first time and streaming live from its professional broadcast and recording space in the heart of Halifax. With state-of-the-art filming and audio technology, Calderdale Music’s setup will give this Live Lounge a slick, industry-level finish while offering an incredible opportunity for students to be part of something real and hands-on.
The event will bring together a lineup of guest performers from Calderdale College and Calderdale Music, covering a range of genres and styles. There will be raw talent, fresh sounds, and a genuine showcase of what’s happening in the local music scene right now.
Industry experience in action
Live Lounge 4 is more than just a gig—it’s a live industry project where students can get stuck into real-world roles. From working behind the camera to managing live sound and helping run a full-scale production, they’ll gain valuable experience in broadcast and media production. This is about learning on the job, not from a textbook.
