De Lacy Academy Y10s enjoy “Photography & David Smith” workshop

Back in November, Year 10 Photography and Art students from De Lacy Academy attended a “Photography & David Smith” workshop at Yorkshire Sculpture Park. The students enjoyed a tour of the park and took photographs along the way, focusing on the sculpture work of David Smith. They then took part in a creative workshop where, through discussion with the sculptor and the use of the photographs they had taken earlier, students created a piece of David Smith-inspired art or sculpture. This fantastic workshop helped students to gain an appreciation of the processes involved in the conception and creation of sculptures from photography.

In the two previous years, De Lacy Academy has enjoyed the bespoke exhibitions and interactive sessions on offer from Yorkshire Sculpture Park, which although on our doorstep, many students have not visited. The trips have proved to be both educational and inspirational for our students and feedback has always been positive. The workshops have widened their knowledge and application of art and specifically, sculpture.
