Exam Buster Revision Engage Evening at Leeds West Academy

Our Exam Buster Revision Skills Engage Evening took place on Wednesday 28th March from 5.30pm-7pm. The evening aimed to support parents in developing the confidence, skills, knowledge and understanding required to support their child in learning at home.

The Exam Buster session was available for the parents of Leeds West Academy students in Years 10, 11 and Sixth Form to attend and was delivered by the external provider ‘Positively MAD’.  Positively MAD has developed a formidable reputation in education over the last 17 years as one of the country’s leading providers of student workshops, teacher training and world-class supportive resources.

The interactive session shared strategies with parents and their child regarding how to work together to prepare for the examination period.  Participants were equipped with a range of very effective learning tools and exam preparation skills.

In the Dining Room there was a ‘marketplace’ with a range of resources, information and advice linked to specific subjects that the students are studying.  These were manned by the Heads of Faculty and Subject Leaders who offered specific advice on revision for parents and students. Go Higher West Yorkshire were also represented by Higher Education Progression Officer Sophie Collins who had a range of resources for parents such as prospectuses, parents’ guides and example career pathways.

Finally, parents and students were be introduced to ‘GCSEPod’. This is an online resource Leeds West Academy has purchased for students in Year 10 and 11 and supports the development of subject knowledge in a range of subjects.  Students can access this learning from a range of devices including smart phone devices.

Mr Zeb added: “At Leeds West Academy, we greatly value and recognise the importance of engagement with families as a key strategy for improving the levels of attainment and the overall progress made by all of our students.  The parents and students I spoke to were really appreciative of the time and effort staff had put into the resources and giving up their evening to support during this stressful time.”
