Future Proof Philosophy at St Wilfrid’s Catholic High School and Sixth Form College

During the first week of term after the Easter break, NCOP supplier ‘Thinking Space’ came into school to host Future Proof Philosophy workshops with Year 9 students who had just kick-started their new RE syllabus. Students engaged positively with each of the three workshops delivered in a consecutive series by Thinking Space, encouraging deeper thinking skills and reflective capability amongst students.

It is hoped that these sessions will encourage students to consider their own values and moral beliefs whilst also raising their awareness of the life skills and qualities that they possess. The interactive nature of the workshops allowed students to communicate their ideas with peers by participating in explorative conversations around set themes.

When asked how the philosophy sessions had helped students’ personal development/confidence, students responded with really positive feedback. One student said, “The event has helped me to understand what I want to do in the future, showing me that money isn’t the most important thing in the world!” Other students spoke of how the sessions helped them to gain confidence and consider serious questions about life and their future decisions. These comments demonstrated the positive values which were encouraged during the Thinking Space workshops.
