GHWY welcomes new Care to Go Higher Delivery Officer

Zac Sheppard discusses his new role

I’m very excited to be taking up the position of Care to Go Higher Delivery Officer at Go Higher West Yorkshire (GHWY).

This brand new role will expand on GHWY’s work with care-experienced young people. Ill be working closely with Natalie Aldridge, Collaborative Outreach Officer, on a number of existing projects as well as some exciting new ideas.

My remit will include building on the successful pilot of the Care to Go Higher CPD programme as we look to adapt the delivery to fit the current Covid-19 context. Ill also be planning other events and programmes to engage care-experienced young people and their key influencers with all forms of higher education. To do this Ill draw on my personal experiences of interacting closely with care-experienced children.

I formerly worked at the University of Plymouth Students’ Union in an Activities Coordinator role, and I have a background in delivering events, activities and training to students. However, I have felt a strong connection with Yorkshire since graduating from the University of York, where I studied a history degree and worked as a sabbatical officer, so I am delighted to be returning to the area. I strongly believe in the benefits of Higher Education, from my own fantastic experiences, and I’m committed to giving everyone the tools and belief to access HE should they wish.

Im looking forward to meeting all the partners and stakeholders that GHWY works with. If youre interested in any of the above or just want to chat about an idea then please send me an email on z.sheppard@leeds.ac.uk I’d be delighted to talk to you!
