Go Higher in Healthcare – Meet the Professionals

Students from Bradford Academy had a chance to “meet the professionals” in a variety of Health Care careers at the Go Higher in Healthcare event held at The University of Leeds on Wednesday 6th June.

Year 12 students with a keen interest in pursuing a career in Healthcare were joined by Year 10 students, many of whom are still trying to decide what their next steps may be, at an informative and engaging event.

The day began with a discussion of what each individual’s priorities in life are, and how it is vital to ensure that your chosen career supports this.

Students were then divided into smaller groups where they had the chance to speak directly to students and professions in different areas in a “speed dating” style fair. Students moved table to table learning about entry requirements, career prospects and day-to-day work from representatives from medicine, dentistry, radiography, nursing, sports science, physiotherapy, midwifery, pharmacy, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, audiology and ODPs. This relaxed and intimate setting gave students an opportunity to ask questions and really understand what is involved in each of the different lines of work.

Students found the day informative, with many students were surprised by how many options are available to them. Students now have the opportunity to apply for work experience through ‘Go Higher in healthcare’ which will be vital for Post-16 students in securing university places.

Post-16 Student Manraj said “Thank you for organising the trip today- it was very informative and I learned about careers that I didn’t even know existed!”
