Higher Education Parents’ Action Group at Mount Saint Mary’s High School

The Leeds team have arranged a weekly informal meet-up where parents work with a representative from Leeds Arts University and the school’s Higher Education Progression Officers to learn more about Higher Education.

The aim of these sessions has been for parents and carers to feel more knowledgeable about the Higher Education process. This will enable them to support their children more fully on their future career path.

Within our session we have talked about a really wide range of subjects relating to both Higher and Further Education- from what is UCAS? To how long are degrees? To what types of qualifications are needed to go to university? And how to you get those post-16 qualifications?

With so much choice out there, we have used the computer suite at Mount Saint Mary’s to research lots of courses and institutions.

‘It is really exciting to hear the wide range of career choices their pupils are considering.’ Jenny Scannell, Progression Support Worker at Leeds Arts University.
