NCOP supporting students with their UCAS application process
Castleford Academy has been working closely with Leeds Beckett University in order to support our Year 13 students with their UCAS application process. Will Atkinson, the NCOP Outreach Officer at the university, has delivered informative workshops on both Personal Statements and Student Finance as well as setting up mock interviews with the university’s Student Ambassadors.
The support given to these students has been fundamental in the application process and has encouraged those who were unsure about their next steps to apply to University. Since the sessions, pupils have completed their Personal Statements, sent UCAS application forms and registered for Student Finance. The sessions have also prompted students to seek further advice from the schools Careers Advisor as to how they can further their application with additional work experience and volunteering.
In addition to the knowledge that was shared by Will, the Student Ambassadors also played a key role in influencing the decisions of this target group. Their honest and humorous take on University life gave our students a realistic view of the next steps that they are about to take!
