Performance in Education: ‘Steps to Success’
Performance in Education gave two fantastic week’s tour to schools within West Yorkshire helping year 9 students understand what Higher Education is and raising their aspirations to get there through ‘Steps to Success’.
Year 10 students developed the skills needed in a changing future job market in a thought provoking drama piece entitled ‘Working Wonders’, and explored the difficulties faced by a student considering a career in Athletics after developing an injury. The show also stressed the importance of all exam subjects, rather than just those that are enjoyed or that feed into a chosen career path.
The students enjoyed an exciting performance, before taking part in a short workshop which looked at preparing for the future in an unpredictable job market, dealing with challenges and developing the skills and behaviours required in the world of employment. There was also an aim to raise aspirations and promote Higher Education.
Miss Collins from Leeds West Academy said “Year 10 students are in the perfect position to take control of their future. This performance came as a brilliant reminder that it is never too early to be prepared and it is never too late to change your plans.”
Both activities had a real immediate and positive impact on the young people involved.
