In January you might have seen the headline on the BBC “Sir Antony Gormley announces ‘UK’s biggest art exhibition”. The Great Big Art Exhibition was launched by the artist Sir Antony Gormley, asking people to make an artwork at home and put it in their window or garden.

At Immanuel College, we decided to offer the challenge to our students during the final week before their return to school.

Here are some of the contributions and a description from the student of their inspiration!

Holly – Year 11

“When thinking about this week’s challenge I wanted to design something I enjoyed and personally I love Marvel so I decided to do the Guardians of the Galaxy.

I started my window painting by doing the black outlines and the highlights, as they would be the first thing you would see on the outside of the window. I used acrylic paints. I think the final result was pretty cool! However, next time I would challenge myself further to create something more intricate.”

 

Xara – Year 11

“My piece was inspired by Lewis Carroll’s ‘Alice in Wonderland’ books. Most of the display I made from paper, but there’s also a small glass bottle, ribbon and some playing cards. I’m happy with the display but would love to make more decorations to go with it. If I could add to it, I would probably make a 3D chess board too and something related to the Cheshire Cat.”

 

Rose – Year 7

“My inspiration for this lantern is Chinese New Year as the style is Chinese with it being a lantern. Also, I really like this because of the colours and because it was like advanced finger painting.

The cherry blossoms make me think of nature.  I made this by painting on the branches and then I made the flowers with my finger print. I think it looks pretty. I can’t think of anything I’d want to change on it. I’m really happy with the result.”
