As part of the careers curriculum, all Year 9 students have the opportunity to visit a higher education institution. At Trinity Academy Halifax, we want students to raise student aspirations and introduce them to the range of options open to them in the future. We believe that by showing students what a university is like, it helps to give them a tangible experience to reference.

So far this half term students have taken part in visits to Leeds and Huddersfield universities. In December, another group of students will attend the University of Bradford. The visits to Leeds and Huddersfield universities were fantastic days out for students. As part of the programme activities such as budget busters and build a student were carried out. The highlight of the trip for many students were the campus tours which allowed them to see the facilities the universities had to offer including teaching spaces, the students’ union, the sports facilities and the accommodation. Students were very enthusiastic about the level of independence that university life offered.

Whilst visiting the universities, Trinity students were able to meet and ask questions to student ambassadors studying at the university. Students asked questions about what life was like at university, why they decided to pursue this route and the courses they were studying. The student ambassadors were excellent role models for our pupils.

The careers curriculum is a vital part of the work we do with students at Trinity. The university visits are just one aspect in a wide programme including workplace visits, presentations from employers and guidance meetings with the C&K careers team.
