World Skills Live at Birmingham NEC

World Skills Live at Birmingham NEC is one of the largest careers conventions in the UK, and this year Year 9 students from Carlton Bolling had the opportunity to go along and interact with a range of employers who were delivering live demonstrations of their trade.

The event was well attended from schools from all over the UK, with the goal of the event being to provide students with a range of experiences to whet their appetite and help them decide on future pathways.

The interactive nature of this event provided a great opportunity for students to get out of their comfort zone and try new things! Our students discovered a number of new trades that excited them, for example, it was great to see girls exploring STEM stalls. Construction students had the opportunity to see real world skills in action. With a wide variety of careers all interests were catered for. From skills such as DIY, floristry, cooking to niche skills such as film make-up.

Mr Wreford, who came along with his construction students, said “My construction students were thrilled to see how the skills we have been learning at school apply to the real world.”
