Sadaf Khan Begum – HNC Computing at Kirklees College

Why did you choose Higher Education at Kirklees College?

The location of Pioneer Higher Skills Centre is great as it is local to where I live. This has meant I am able to balance my studies with my family commitments, as I am able to be at home and spend time with my daughter.

What are the benefits of studying at Kirklees College?

The tutors have given me continuous feedback so I am always able to make improvements to my work. I have also been able to borrow a laptop when I have needed to and had free access to other resources to support our learning, such as Dreamweaver for our web design lessons.

What are you planning to do next after this course?

I’m still not sure so I’m keeping my options open. I might study Computing at HND level part-time, get a higher apprenticeship or a related job.

How would you rate the facilities at college?

The Learning Resource Centre is great and the facilities for the HE students are fantastic. The best part is the Starbucks coffee shop and the coffee vending machines to help us relax on our break time. The Pioneer Higher Skills Centre also has new interactive screens which make it easier to see the learning material.

What are your tutors like at college?

Most of them provide great feedback and are more than happy to answer any questions. They have gone above and beyond and even answer my queries during the holidays. I have really enjoyed my networking classes with Mark.

What would be the main reason you would recommend Kirklees College to others?

The teachers are supportive and offer one-to-one sessions when needed to answer your queries.

How would you rate Kirklees College overall?

The course has helped me to become more confidence. I have learnt new skills and developed my knowledge as I had limited understanding about the IT field when I started. Since starting at college, I have also managed to secure a promotion at my work.
