Degree Apprenticeships on the rise in West Yorkshire
Partners are gearing up to deliver an increased number of degree apprenticeships across our region. This has been made possible through the highly innovative and fruitful ‘Driving Social Mobility through Degree Apprenticeships’ project.
The Go Higher West Yorkshire collaborative project, led by Leeds Trinity University, was funded from autumn 2017 to spring 2018 through HEFCE’s (now OfS) Degree Apprenticeships Development Fund.
The purpose was to create new high quality degree apprenticeships, establishing capacity and expertise to deliver them, and making broader educational opportunities available to learners.
Our project had five strands: awareness raising with under-represented groups, employer engagement and market building, programme development, institutional readiness to deliver, and monitoring and evaluation.
As well as anticipating almost 300 new degree apprenticeship starts this academic year, the outputs of our project include a series of six workshops to get partners and their administrative systems ready to deliver, plus ‘Headstart’: an interactive resource for young people and their key influencers, to help demystify the realities a higher or degree apprenticeship, as well as covering the key skills required to gain an apprenticeship and to be successful in completing it.
GHWY will support partners in their continued development of degree apprenticeships, including promoting these to under-represented groups and delivering mentoring workshops.
