GHWY to deliver keynote speech at Race, Equity and Social Justice Conference

The free event will take place virtually on Thursday, 24 March, with colleagues from our Decolonising the Curriculum Network working together to deliver a collaborative keynote speech: ‘Gearing institutional journeys to de-coloniality through the benefits of collaboration’.

The keynote will focus on the principles behind collaboration through GHWY, as well as outlining the different stages where member institutions are on their journey towards decolonising their curricula and the benefits to them of working collaboratively.

The event will feature a number of other keynote talks including ‘How a research programme can create equity and drive forward social justice’ and ‘If you were a white man: Bodies of value in academic life’. There will also be workshops and a panel discussion on the theme of decoloniality.

The agenda will have an emphasis on the impact of colonisation on the student/staff experience, wider communities, and diversifying the curriculum. It aims to encourage discussion, reflection and challenge racial inequity.

Leeds Trinity University is the first and only university in Yorkshire to have achieved the Race Equality Charter (REC) Bronze award. This will be its third annual Race Equality Conference.
