GHWY welcomes new Higher Level Skills Manager

Go Higher West Yorkshire (GHWY) is pleased to welcome Ayesha Akram as its new Higher Level Skills Manager.

She will help to connect the work of our 13 member institutions to existing activity and new opportunities in West Yorkshire. This will be achieved by collaborating with representatives from GHWY’s member institutions and the Uni Connect programme to identify ways to support people from groups under-represented in Higher Education (HE) and their key influencers to understand and develop the skills required to enter and achieve in HE.

She will also ensure integration of alternative HE options into the wider work of the team. This will involve working with representatives from GHWY’s member institutions and local stakeholders to understand the value of connecting with HE, and higher-level skills for their own current and future workforce.

Ayesha has a background in access and outreach, previously working at the University of Leeds as a Senior Outreach Officer. She focused on managing projects that raised awareness of the benefits of HE, particularly for learners from under-represented groups to access support and guidance.

Ayesha grew up in Manchester and studied English Literature at Leeds Beckett University. Outside of work, she has a passion for raising awareness of mental health and is a trustee at Leeds Mind.
