Kirklees College involved in Student Commission on Racial Justice animations

The Student Commission on Racial Justice has produced two animations that encourage open and honest discussion about racial injustice.

The Commission is a partnership of Leaders Unlocked and ten leading colleges in England.

Kirklees College has been involved in it since 2020 and two of its commissioners worked on the 2021 animation It All Adds Up, which shows a day in the life of four Black, Asian and Minoritised Ethnic young people as they encounter racism from the police, employers, healthcare services and in education.

A further four students worked on the Commission’s latest workshop and animation Speak Truth to Power, which explores the historical fight for racial justice and the action that still needs to be taken. It shows three racial justice activists that have come before us to pave the way for equality, while also shining a light on the racial injustice experienced today by young people from minoritised ethnic groups.

Both videos will be used across the College within its tutorial programme.

The Commission is exploring racial disparities across four key areas of society – Education, Employment, Health and Policing and Justice – and developing national recommendations for change.
