Labour Market Information workshop engagement

Go Higher Skills Group members have engaged in two Labour Market Information round table discussions hosted by Yorkshire Universities. These combined analysis of vacancy and recruitment data and Graduate Outcome data brought together in presentations from the West Yorkshire Combined Authority and JISC.

The data illustrated that graduates were typically progressing into larger employers despite the high concentration of small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) in the region. The discussions highlighted that graduate employment mobility was a challenge and more acute within sub-regions outside of Leeds. There was consensus on the need to promote the transferability of graduate skills, especially to increase graduate recruitment from SMEs. It was felt that more was needed to encourage and support SMEs in adopting inclusive recruitment practices, and embedding inclusivity within strategy, operations and workplace culture.

In the 2021/22 academic year, GHWY’s Higher Level Skills Manager and member representatives will attend a Yorkshire Universities task and finish group to further examine regional labour market trends and explore interventions to address the challenges highlighted within the workshop discussions.
