Leeds College of Building scoops national apprenticeship award

Leeds College of Building has beaten off stiff competition to be named ‘Apprenticeship Provider of the Year’.

The College, which is one of 13 partners in Go Higher West Yorkshire, scooped the accolade on 3 March at the national FE Week & AELP AAC Apprenticeship 2020 Awards.

Over the last decade the College’s focus on apprenticeships has led to a huge growth in technical and professional training. In 2011 just ten young people enrolled in areas as varied as Quantity Surveying, Building Services Engineering, Construction Management, Transport Planning, and Civil Engineering. This had increased to over 700 by 2018, with female apprentices going from one to over 150.

More than 500 sector leaders, apprentices, and staff gathered at the award ceremony at the ICC Birmingham. It was also attended by Apprenticeship Skills Minister Gillian Keegan.

Forty-four organisations and individuals were shortlisted in 22 categories. Other finalists included Weston College, Gen2 Training, and Abingdon & Witney College.
