Newsletter launched to connect care experienced young people with HE providers

Go Higher West Yorkshire (GHWY) will improve the connectivity between key influencers of care-experienced young people in the community and higher education (HE) providers with the launch of a brand new newsletter.

The monthly e-newsletter will be targeted at staff in local authorities and virtual schools as well as foster carers, children’s residential home staff and personal advisors. It will offer them a way to stay up to date with all the latest news, events and developments within West Yorkshire’s HE sector. This will help them, and the children they work with or look after, become better connected to HE events and opportunities.

The idea for the newsletter came from GHWY’s Beyond Care networking event that brought together care professionals, higher educational staff members and other interested stakeholders. It will provide a platform for HE providers to showcase their outreach work and feature their student’s voices to the wider caring community. It is hoped that by connecting passionate individuals and organisations across West Yorkshire we can make strides towards improving the progression rate of care-experienced young people into HE.

The newsletter will spotlight a different HE provider from the region each month with a “Spotlight On …” feature. Every edition will also contain student voice pieces, showcasing care-experienced voices and role models. Other content will include upcoming community, outreach and open day events, rounding up the latest HE news and blog pieces on the latest work from GHWY and our partners.

The newsletter will be sent out on the second Wednesday of every month and will be launched on 12 May. Information on how to sign up for it will be available on the GHWY website shortly.

If you have any events, news or student blogs that you want featured in the newsletter then please email Zac Sheppard, Care to Go Higher Delivery Officer, at z.sheppard@leeds.ac.uk
