OfS case study highlights GHWY’s Care to Go Higher CPD programme

Go Higher West Yorkshire’s Care to Go Higher CPD programme has been recognised as an example of good practice by the Office for Students (OfS).

The programme equips adults to support the care experienced young people they live or work with to make informed choices about their educational progression. It has been featured as a positive case study in a new insight brief on care experienced students in higher education.

Consistency needed: Care experienced students and higher education considers obstacles these students face and how they can be addressed. It stresses the need for getting clear information and guidance to children in care, with GHWY’s course providing an example of good practice in this area by improving the knowledge of key influencers.

GHWY has widely disseminated the report on its pilot programme. It has already been featured in a TASO evidence review and formed the basis for two webinars that attracted audience members from key West Yorkshire stakeholders and higher education providers across the country.

GHWY has been included in the OfS report alongside the Universities of Exeter and Cumbria, and the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama as important case studies that showcase higher education providers working effectively with care experienced young people.

The Care to Go Higher CPD sessions have returned this year in a virtual format and live sessions take place online. The programme forms part of GHWY’s ongoing commitment to support children in care to access higher education.
