Refreshed Care Leaver Covenant launched

We are pleased to announce the launch of GHWY’s collaborative Care Leaver Covenant for 2022-23.

The resource, which was originally developed in 2017, demonstrates the ongoing commitment to care leavers shown by our 13 Higher Education (HE) members. Updated annually, it brings together all the support, information, and top tips offered by our members in a single, easy to navigate document.

It has been updated to include a number of new features that are designed to make it even more informative and user friendly. This follows input from our members and feedback from a care-experienced graduate, as we seek to continually improve care leavers’ access to information on their entitlement to support in HE.

This year we have revised the support categories that our members offer to care-experienced students, with new check-boxes for support with graduation costs and whether the HE provider acts as a rent guarantor. It also makes it clear which institutions do not have their own accommodation.

In addition, the document now includes a glossary of HE terms, an inspiring care leaver story, and a refreshed list of top tips to help individuals on their HE journey. The design has also been overhauled to make it clearer and even more accessible.

The document will be launched with a social media campaign that will run throughout National Care Leavers’ Week (24-28 October).

Additional information about the support offered by our members is available on our website.
