Go Higher West Yorkshire (GHWY) is pleased to invite colleagues from all members of the consortium to its Evaluation Exchange.
The event will share evaluation learnings and spotlight effective evaluation, and will help GHWY member institutions to meet Office for Students’ requirements for evaluation dissemination and learning, as well as help audience members learn from practice happening locally. It will be held on Wednesday, 13 May from 10am-1pm (refreshments from 9.30 am) at Leeds Beckett University.

| 10:30–10:50 | University of Leeds | Leeds Futures – A Scalable, Data-Driven, Collaborative Model for Regional and National Widening Participation | An overview of the Leeds Futures programme, a hybrid widening participation offer from the University of Leeds supporting Year 12 and 13 pupils to explore disciplines, build university-level skills, and progress into higher education. Reaching 700 learners across 11 subject strands in 2024, the programme combines targeted outreach with contextual offers and interviews to support underrepresented students. This session will explore how mixed-methods evaluation is being used to evidence impact on confidence, subject choice, progression, and belonging, and how Leeds Futures offers a scalable and collaborative model for widening participation.

| 10:50–11:10 | Leeds Beckett University | UJIMA Residential Project | UJIMA is one of Leeds Beckett University’s flagship outreach programmes. The programme is targeted and tailored specifically for boys from Black Caribbean & Black African backgrounds who amongst the least likely to progress to HE. UJIMA has high ambitions to be a transformational experience. The three-day residential programme combines academic, professional and student engagement to challenge low self-belief, raise aspirations and encourage students to progress HE.

| 11:10–11:30 | Leeds Arts University | Students of minoritised ethnicities’ perceptions of the everyday tutor-student relationship and the impact on their learning experience in a creative arts university | Set against the backdrop of a persistent ethnicity awarding gap, this session shares institutional research exploring how students of minoritised ethnicities experience the everyday tutor-student relationship and the impact this has on their learning. It will explore key themes including assumptions, misunderstanding, pedagogical choices, and discouragement.

| 11:30–11:50 | Luminate Education Group | Understanding Student Money and Financial Support in Luminate Higher Education | University Centre Leeds and Leeds Conservatoire have both undertaken work to better understand student financial wellbeing and the support available within their institutions. This session will explore their methods, key findings, and some of the challenges of carrying out this work as small providers.

| 11:50–12:10 | University of Huddersfield | Access and Participation Plan at the University of Huddersfield: Notes from the First 6 Months | This session explores the University of Huddersfield’s Access and Participation Plan, focusing on work to address attainment gaps among minority students through enhanced support on large courses with lower outcomes. It will reflect on the development of an Enhanced Support Team, the pedagogical challenges encountered, and how these are shaping intervention delivery and ongoing APP evaluation.
