Keynote speaker announced for GHWY’s teachers’ and advisers’ conference
Andi Brierley, Head of Access, Participation and Outcomes at Leeds Trinity University, will be one of the keynote speakers at Go Higher West Yorkshire’s (GHWY) teachers’ and advisers’ conference.
The free event will help delegates to gain an insight into Higher Education (HE) pathways and the support available for under-represented groups in HE. It will also be an opportunity to learn from our 13 HE providers – which include universities, HE-in-FE provision, a specialist training provider, and conservatoire – and find out more about our collaborative resources to help students.
It will be held on Wednesday, 1 May between 9.30am to 3.30pm at the University of Huddersfield. Lunch will be provided.
The event, which is being organised by GHWY and our members, is aimed at anyone who works with young people and supports them to make informed choices, including teachers, careers staff, youth workers, charities, and staff in local authorities.
The conference will open with a welcome from Professor Jane Owen-Lynch, Pro Vice-Chancellor of Teaching and Learning at the University of Huddersfield. Jane has also been Chair of GHWY’s Board since 2023.
Throughout the day there will be a choice of breakout sessions covering ‘Getting into HE’ and ‘Student Support in HE’ for under-represented groups. There will also be two student panels; the first will cover what students most enjoy about studying at their HE provider, and the second is a Q&A. Delegates will be invited to submit questions nearer the time for the panel.
Further details about the programme will be announced soon.
GHWY members that will be represented at the event are: Bradford College, University of Bradford, University Centre Calderdale College, University of Huddersfield, Kirklees College, Leeds Conservatoire, University of Leeds, Leeds Arts University, Leeds Beckett University, Leeds College of Building, University Centre Leeds, Leeds Trinity University, University Centre Wakefield College (Heart of Yorkshire).
