West Yorkshire elects first Metro Mayor

In May, West Yorkshire welcomed Tracy Brabin as its first regional metro Mayor.

Her mayoral commitments include the appointment of a new Inclusivity Champion. Further pledges encompass jobs creation for young people and strengthening access to training and skills, particularly digital skills and green jobs creation. Regional economic recovery and support for local businesses are understandably a key concern.

As a passionate advocate for the cultural and creative sector, Brabin seeks to lead a Creative New Deal to ensure that the creative industries are part of the recovery strategy.  The full set of mayoral manifesto pledges can read here.

Brabin was born in Batley and prior to her appointment served as MP for Batley and Spen. She is an alumni of both Loughborough University and University of the Arts London.
