GHWY publishes annual report for 2023-24

Major projects that Go Higher West Yorkshire (GHWY) delivered during academic year 2023-24, including our Go Higher In Days and Empowering Boys’ Voices Conference, can be read about in our latest annual report.
Available online, the document also details some of our upcoming activities and resources. These include the launch of a new e-learning course that will help Higher Education (HE) staff to support and understand disabled learners.
Last academic year, our Uni Connect programme delivered six Go Higher In Days that focused on key sector areas within the region. We worked with local employers, including Leeds Young Film Festival, to showcase a broad range of careers and the varied HE routes into them. Over 300 learners benefited from the events, four of which were co-funded by West Yorkshire Combined Authority.
During this period, we also delivered a hugely successful Empowering Boys’ Voices Conference. The event, which addressed local needs to share best practice when engaging with disengaged boys, included talks from industry experts Mark Roberts, author of ‘Boys Don’t Try?’; Andy Hamilton, Research Associate at the ‘Taking Boys Seriously’ project; and Dr Alex Blower, who founded Boys’ Impact.
Other key achievements over the last 12 months include commissioning YMCA George Williams College to deliver evaluation training to our staff and stakeholders, which will help to strengthen our work’s evidence base, and our CPD programme reaching over 1,300 unique views on our website. The first four events of our programme for 2024-25 have been announced, with more to follow.
In addition, the report details some of our upcoming work. This includes the launch of our Care Experienced Transition Pack, which will help to raise awareness of the barriers faced by learners from care-experienced backgrounds when progressing into HE, providing an interactive roadmap to assist learners on their journey.
Our work to reduce inequalities in access to and success in HE will continue throughout 2024-25. You can keep up to date with all our activities by subscribing to our free monthly e-newsletter.
