HE taster day for care-experienced students

Care-experienced students and their guardians/carers are encouraged to register for a taster day that will help to make Higher Education (HE) seem more accessible to them.

The free event is being organised by Go Higher West Yorkshire (GHWY) on behalf of our 13 member institutions. It will be held at Leeds Arts University on 22 August between 11am-1pm.

It will include a campus tour, talks with student ambassadors, and information about the support available in HE for care-experienced students. Lunch will be provided free of charge.

The event is aimed at Year 9, 10 and 11 care-experienced students who are still considering their HE options. Their guardians/carers are also welcome to attend.

If attendees have any transport difficulties, we may be able to assist with some travel to and from the venue. Add any relevant information to your registration form and a GHWY staff member will get in touch.

Please note that the HE taster day previously advertised for the University of Huddersfield on 1 August has been cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances.

The idea of HE can seem intimidating or unachievable to many care-experienced young people. This is why GHWY has been working to make HE more accessible to them for many years. Its initiatives include the Care to Go Higher CPD programme, an e-learning course for staff to help better support care-experienced and estranged students, and widening participation activities.
