Care to Go Higher training open for registration
Registration has opened for Go Higher West Yorkshire’s (GHWY) innovative Care to Go Higher training programme. Aimed at the key influencers of care-experienced young people, the free CPD empowers them to support students to make informed decisions about Higher Education (HE).
The CPD will run from February to March 2024, and consists of six two-hour sessions delivered by Dominic House, GHWY’s Care to Go Higher Delivery Officer. There will also be guest speakers providing their own personal or expert knowledge on care experience. These will include HE outreach staff, care-experienced students, admissions staff and guest speakers from other organisations that support care-experienced young people.
The programme is being offered nationwide, after it was successfully rolled out for the last delivery. It is open to anyone who supports care-experienced young people, including foster carers, children’s home workers, and personal advisors. Register for the programme.
Care to Go Higher has been fully evaluated to measure its effectiveness at better equipping participants to support their young people. It has had measurable success in terms of increase in knowledge on various subject matters. Read the evaluation report from our 2023 programme.
A previous participant said: “I enjoyed learning about supporting care leavers in HE and the wealth of support and opportunities available to them. The additional speakers were good and I particularly enjoyed hearing from them. Also having the opportunity to hear from a care-experienced student was great. I would highly recommend this training session.”
