Having a disability can result in a student having less self-confidence in their ability to achieve and succeed in HE.
This can be due to:
- Struggling with acceptance in a predominantly ableist society
- Negative social experiences and exclusion
- Lack of support
- Being given low expectations by health and education professionals
Despite this, students with a disability have many skills they can bring to HE. These include:
- Resilience
- Problem solving
- Contributing to a more diverse student body and bringing a wider variety of views to course discussions
